The Game

The concept of the game is based on the importance of the Saxon Shieldwall formation during the famous and fateful Battle of Hastings in October 1066.

"A FINELY BALANCED GAME OF MILITARY STRATEGY"

The objective of Shieldwall is to capture positions behind the opponent's flanks. Attacking pieces can only operate in pairs and the defending pieces can be constructed into stronger units called Shieldwalls.

Each game is individually hand-crafted, with 48 Norman and Saxon figurines - Medieval in style - depicting swordsmen and shieldmen.

This really does sum up the qualities Shieldwall offers to the adept player of other classic strategy games.

Outflank your opponent and capture the most possible positions first!

But beware … it is possible to win by capturing fewer positions than your opponent!

Attack with the dual action Swordlock formation …

… and defend by constructing the indomitable Shieldwalls

The rules are as easy to learn as draughts yet the complexities of the strategy involved are comparable to chess.
